Candidates do need to have some relevant skills or experience. In particular, candidates should have a positive, enthusiastic and motivated outlook, and excellent communication skills who can work happily in a team environment. Being an advanced skier or snowboarder, with some good teaching or leadership experience, will also help.
You’ll also need a valid work permit to work in Canada – another reason why it’s critical that you apply as soon as possible.
The three-week training program is delivered by some of the most experienced instructors in Whistler, five days a week, and will focus on preparing you to be a successful instructor at the same time as improving your all-mountain riding.
You’ll be schooled in official CSIA/CASI methodology, and develop highly-useful safety and teaching skills. Training groups are limited to six trainees per instructor to ensure that you get plenty of individual attention whilst still benefiting from group dynamics.
The possibility of employment with the Whistler Blackcomb Snow School does exist if you successfully complete the three weeks of training and pass the exam.
Successful candidates looking for employment opportunities with the school will undergo a post-internship interview process for instructor positions within Whistler Blackcomb Snow School.
If you want an instructor job after you qualify, you stand the best chance by applying to a snow school with suitable size and scope. Thankfully, Whistler Blackcomb Snow School is the largest in the world, with well over 1,000 employees.
Should you go on to gain employment with Whistler Blackcomb Snow School after completing your internship, you will live in Whistler staff accommodation for the remainder of the season. For Whistler Blackcomb employees, this is typically paid for out of your wages once you start working.
