Candidates do need to have some relevant skills or experience. In particular, we’ll look for candidates with a positive, enthusiastic and motivated outlook, and excellent communication skills who can work happily in a team environment. Being an advanced skier or snowboarder, with some teaching or leaderships experience, will also help.
You’ll also need a working visa for Canada – another reasons why it’s critical that you apply as soon as possible.
The ski and snowboard coaching is delivered by some of the most experienced instructors in Whistler and will focus on preparing you to be successful Whistler instructor at the same time as improving your all-mountain riding.
Training groups are limited to six trainees per instructor in order that you get plenty of individual attention whilst still benefiting from group dynamics. Whistler Blackcomb resort set the schedule, but generally training is five days per week.
If you harbour ambitions of building a career in the ski industry, the benefits of this course are almost endless. As well as being part of Canada’s most progressive ski school, and receiving ongoing training from senior Whistler instructors for your CSIA/CASI Level 2 and beyond, it’s also a hugely powerful asset for any CV.
What’s more, you’ll get to work with and teach people from all over the world and receive private instructor career planning and advice sessions to help you plot your first steps into the industry.
If you want an instructor job, it’s important to consider the size and scope of the ski school as you want to be confident of getting enough work to support yourself. Thankfully, Whistler Blackcomb Snow School is the largest in North America, and with internship places limited you can feel confident that you will get the hours your need.
As part of the ALLTRACKS Instructor Internship, you are entitled to Whistler staff accommodation for both the course and for the remainder of the season whilst you are working for the snow school. The staff accommodation is functional, sociable and well-located, being virtually ski in, ski out.
The course cost covers your accommodation during the training element and then you will pay for it out of your Whistler Blackcomb wages once you start working.
